1. What Is KS400?
KS400 is a high-strength, high-toughness aluminum alloy developed by Xinbo for automotive extrusion applications, with a focus on balancing strength, ductility, and bendability.
KS400 has completed alloy composition finalization and small-batch automotive extrusion sample validation. Process windows and performance data are being further refined, while small-batch trials with automakers and industrial application are gradually being advanced.
2. KS400 Performance
The core performance objective of KS400 is to increase material strength while maintaining good ductility and bending performance.
| Tensile Strength | ≥ 400 MPa |
| Yield Strength | ≥ 370 MPa |
| Elongation | ≥ 10% |
| Equivalent Bend Angle | ≥ 60° |
These four indicators should be evaluated together in the context of the intended application.
Tensile strength and yield strength reflect the material’s load-bearing capability, while elongation and equivalent bend angle are used to assess ductility and formability.
Final material selection should also take into account part geometry, processing conditions, and validation results.
3. Why It Matters in Engineering
The value of KS400 is not simply a higher strength number—it is the additional design space that improved material performance can create for automotive structures.
Automotive extrusions need to do more than carry loads.
They also need to perform through extrusion, forming, joining, machining, and final component validation.
Higher strength can create more room for section and wall-thickness optimization.
At the same time, ductility and bending performance remain essential for processing and deformation behavior.
Strength and Formability Go Together
Strength provides the foundation for structural performance.
Ductility and bendability help determine whether the material can be effectively processed and formed into the required component.
Lightweighting Starts with the Component
Material improvement alone does not define weight reduction.
Real lightweighting must be evaluated through the actual part, including section design, wall thickness, structural analysis, and physical testing.

4. Material Development and Validation Process
KS400 development follows four key stages: alloy design, melt control, microstructure control, and extrusion validation.
01 Alloy Design
The alloy composition is designed and optimized around strength, ductility, and forming requirements.
02 Melt Purification
Refining, impurity removal, and degassing are used to control melt quality and provide a stable foundation for subsequent casting and processing.
03 Microstructure Control
Casting, homogenization, and heat-treatment processes are coordinated to continuously optimize the material’s microstructure and overall performance.
04 Extrusion Validation
Automotive extrusion samples are used to evaluate material performance under actual extrusion, processing, and application conditions, while performance data and process windows are continuously refined.

5. Current Progress
KS400 has moved beyond initial material development and is now progressing toward broader application validation.

Moving Forward
The next stage is to continue building a more complete data set around processing and application performance.
6. Where KS400 Could Be Used
KS400 is primarily being developed for high-strength automotive structural extrusions, with potential for other lightweight applications.
Current focus includes:
- Load-bearing body structural extrusions
- High-strength crash-management extrusions
These applications require a combination of strength, ductility, and reliable forming performance.
Potential Future Applications
KS400 may also be explored for:
- Precision components in new energy equipment
- Lightweight rail-transit components
Actual suitability will depend on part design, processing conditions, and validation results.
7. What Comes Next?
The next step is to expand application data and accelerate real-world component validation.
Xinbo will continue to refine process windows, material performance data, extrusion processing parameters, and component validation results.
From alloy design to extrusion validation and real component applications, KS400 is moving closer to industrial use.
